A little about my family and our history in the cycling trade…. In the late 60’s my Grandfather, Howard, and my Uncle, Allen , decided to turn their small hobby of ‘tinkering’ with used bicycles into a full time business. In 1970 they, along with my Grandma Irene, took the plunge and purchased a small bicycle shop in the heart of a small village called Horbury in West Yorkshire.
By 1972 the business was outgrowing the shop front so they sourced a larger shop less than 500 metres down the road, my father Paul joined the business and, along with other family members, they grew Hopkinson Cycles and established the business as the main bicycle dealer and repair centre in the area. They expanded the business to markets across Yorkshire, including popular market areas of Wakefield, Huddersfield, Leeds and Selby
In the early 2000’s the declining passing trade and low footfall into the shop meant that Hopkinson cycles had to find another avenue to make ends meet. The markets were quieter and people’s shopping habits had started changing. Paul noticed this and decided to turn their hand at online auction site eBay. After a few years eBay started to snowball so he created an eBay ecommerce business store and I joined the business to help grow the online sales.
Due to increase in cycling popularity, our sales skyrocketed and we no longer had the time or staff hours for cycling repairs and we went full time into ecommerce cycling spares & accessories sales.
In 2018 we won the Family award category in the eBay for Business awards and came 2nd that year in the same awards for business of the year.
In 2020 Hopkinson Cycles was a finalist in the Yorkshire & Humber region of FSB Small business awards. In the same year we also won the best cycling shop in Wakefield award on rating site: ‘3 best rated’.
With nearly a million eBay sales and over 99% positive feedback on hundreds of thousands of online feedbacks our family have prided ourselves on meeting high expectations. We aim to give our customers a fast, professional service, at a competitive price and can offer a wide range of knowledge in the cycling trade.
From our family to yours we thank you for using Hopkinson Cycles.

5 star quality products
Got my girls bike from here and it was better than imagined. She absolitely loved it. Thank
Bought a new shimano cassette today. A very good price for an original quality component. The knowledge and expertise was worth the 50 mile round trip to collect the part. I have bought a few parts from Hopkinson cycles over the years and always found them to be first class. Excellent service 5 stars. Well done Hopkinson
I was looking for some rare 22" tyres and inner tubes and Hopkinson's were the only place I could find that stocked them. I drove across and picked these up the same day. Price was reasonable. The chaps were friendly and helpful. Good little local bike shop. Thank you!
I always deal online and have stuff sent through the the post. Always quick, efficient and most importantly, I get what I ask for. No problem recommending Hopkinsons to anyone who needs bits by yesterday!
Had my last 3 bikes from here. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Good quality and well priced.
