About Hopkinson Cycles: A Legacy in the Cycling Trade

Hopkinson Cycles is a family-owned business with deep roots in the cycling industry, providing quality bicycle parts and accessories online throughout the UK.

Let me first introduce myself, my Name is Nick Hopkinson I have over 2 decades experience in the cycling industry and I’m third generation in our cycling family; Our story begins in the late 1960s when my grandfather, Howard, and my uncle, Allen, transformed their hobby of tinkering with used bicycles into a full-time enterprise. In 1970, they took a bold step and purchased a small bicycle shop in the heart of Horbury, a charming village in West Yorkshire.

By 1972, the rapid growth of the business necessitated a move to a larger shop just 500 metres down the road. My father, Paul, joined the team, and together with other family members, they expanded Hopkinson Cycles, establishing it as the premier bicycle dealer and repair centre in the region. Our influence soon spread across Yorkshire, including notable market areas such as Wakefield, Huddersfield, Leeds, and Selby.

Embracing the Digital Age

In the early 2000s, shifting shopping habits and reduced foot traffic prompted Hopkinson Cycles to explore new avenues. Recognizing the potential of online sales, Paul launched our eBay store, which quickly gained traction. As online sales soared, I joined the business to further develop our e-commerce presence. The booming popularity of cycling propelled our sales, allowing us to transition fully to online sales of cycling spares and accessories.

• 2018: Won the Family Award category in the eBay for Business Awards and secured second place in the Business of the Year category.
• 2020: Finalist in the Yorkshire & Humber region of the FSB Small Business Awards. Also, recognized as the Best Cycling Shop in Wakefield by ‘3 Best Rated’.
